What 4EA1/03 assesses
The coursework alternative to Component 2, with the same content and assessment objectives. Assignment A (30 marks) is an essay on any three poetry or prose texts from Part 2 of the Anthology, discussing at least one poetry and one prose text.
Assignment B (30 marks) is imaginative writing. It has the same 60 marks and 40% weighting.

4EA1/03 is worth 40% of the 4EA1 grade and carries 60 marks. Each mark moves the qualification by about 0.67%. The qualification is graded 9–1.

Writing
- AO5: write clearly, using a range of vocabulary and sentence structures, with appropriate paragraphing and accurate spelling, grammar and punctuation

How the routes work in 4EA1
Every candidate takes Component 1. They then take either Component 2 (exam) or Component 3 (coursework). The Spoken Language Endorsement is optional and reported separately.
