An experienced teacher runs a diagnostic first lesson, gives honest feedback on where your child stands, and reads their writing closely in every lesson. We cover Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA.

When a change is worth considering

Changing your child’s English tutor is rarely comfortable. Most families reach the decision slowly. The lessons continue and the fees are paid, yet something is not moving.

Essays come back with the same comments each term. Feedback stays general, such as “good effort” or “needs more detail”. Or your child, who once liked English, has gone quiet about it.

Nobody has to be at fault. Tutoring is a personal fit, and a pairing that worked two years ago may have run its course. A single diagnostic lesson is the honest way to find out whether a fresh teacher would help.

About your current tutor

We look at your child’s work and needs, whichever tutor came before. Fit varies from student to student, and a tutor who is not right for your child may suit someone else.

You decide how to handle the current arrangement. You could pause it, finish a term or run both for a short time while you decide.

The diagnostic first lesson

The first lesson is a paid one-hour trial, and it does two jobs. Your child brings or writes a piece, and the teacher reads it closely and works through it live.

The aim is to find the two or three habits holding the grade down. Perhaps the analysis names techniques but never says what they do. Perhaps summaries slide back into the writer’s words, or the writing is fluent but loosely structured.

The teacher then teaches a fix on the spot, so you feel the difference. At the end, you get a frank view of where your child stands, what a plan would target first and what is realistic before the exam. If your current tutor is doing fine, we tell you that too.

What a fresh, experienced teacher brings

A teacher who reads a great deal of student writing spots patterns quickly. Some habits go unremarked for months because they have become familiar. A new teacher also resets the relationship around the work, and a student who was going through the motions often re-engages.

We teach Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA, in First Language English, ESL and Literature. Whatever board and strand your child is entered for, the teacher knows the ground. We take exact paper details from each board’s syllabus, as shown on our qualification pages.

How lessons run once you switch

After the diagnostic, lessons settle into a weekly rhythm. Each live one-to-one hour is built around your child’s own writing. They read a recent piece, isolate the habit we are working on and try the fix in a short timed task.

Between lessons, your child writes one focused piece, and the teacher works through it in the next hour with specific notes, not a vague grade. You always know what happened in the hour you paid for.

If this question is on your mind, a paid one-hour trial with an experienced teacher is the simplest way to see how we teach.

The practical side

Switching is less disruptive than families fear. In the first lessons, the teacher learns what your child already does well and builds on it. We change one thing at a time, which is kinder to your child and faster in practice.

Tell us the board, the strand and what has frustrated you, and we can start well. There is no package to buy.

What the first month looks like

The earliest change is usually not the grade but the feedback. A parent used to “good effort” begins to see which paragraph lost marks and why. Being told exactly what to do next motivates a child far more than being told to try harder.

You can judge the change yourself after the first lesson. Lessons are paid one by one, with no package.

Cost and the paid trial

Lessons start from RM70 an hour. The rate depends on the teacher and level, and we confirm it on WhatsApp first. Lessons fit around school.

The first lesson is a paid one-hour trial with the teacher who would continue. You can take it while still deciding, as the cleanest way to compare. You continue only if it is clearly better.

Scope

We give honest feedback on progress and we do not promise grades. We teach the skills behind coursework and speaking.

Your child writes every submitted piece and gives every spoken answer, because both must be their own work. We teach IGCSE and International GCSE English only, not SPM, IB, UEC or STPM.

Stay, switch or stop?

Staying is right if the current tutor is working and the doubt is passing. Relying on school and past papers can suit a self-motivated student who has outgrown tutoring. Switching earns its place when writing has plateaued, feedback has gone vague or your child has disengaged.

In those cases, the problem is the quality of attention the work receives. The paid trial lets you see which case you are in.

What happens next

  1. Message us on WhatsApp with your child’s year, board, strand and what has not been working.
  2. We reply the same day, suggest a teacher and confirm the rate.
  3. Your child takes the one-hour paid trial. You do not need to end anything first.
  4. Regular lessons begin only if it suits.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know it is time to change tutor?
Common signs are writing that has not improved over a term, vague feedback, lessons without a visible plan, or a child who has gone quiet about English. A diagnostic first lesson will tell you plainly whether a change is worth making.
Will you criticise our previous tutor?
No. We look only at where your child is now and what would help next. How you handle the current arrangement is up to you.
What does the first lesson tell us?
It is a diagnostic and a real lesson at once. The teacher reads your child's writing, names the two or three habits holding the grade down and teaches something useful. You then hear a frank view of what is realistic.
Do we need to finish with the current tutor before trying you?
No. You can take one paid trial while still deciding, so they can compare. There is no package, so you have nothing to unwind if it is not right.
Will changing tutor disrupt my child's progress?
Not if the handover is done well. In the first lessons, the teacher learns what your child already knows and builds on it. A well-judged change usually settles quickly.
