We teach First Language, ESL and Literature, Year 9 to Year 11, for Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA.

A steady teacher who reads your child’s writing every week

We often teach Year 10 and Year 11 students at international schools, and homeschooled students in Malaysia. Many sit First Language English, often with Literature. Their parents want an experienced teacher who builds reading and writing skills week after week, not a large class where a quiet student can drift.

We also teach ESL (English as a Second Language) students working towards a confident pass. Our other students include private candidates with no school behind them, learning-centre students who want focused time, and Year 9 students who start early.

What we teach

We cover all three IGCSE English qualifications:

  • First Language English. Reading for meaning, writer’s effects (how word choice and imagery shape meaning), directed writing, and discursive, argumentative, persuasive, descriptive and narrative composition.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL). Reading, writing, listening and speaking, using each board’s exercise types.
  • Literature in English. Poetry, prose and drama, the unseen paper and essay technique, with our own analysis of set texts.

We teach across Cambridge International, Pearson Edexcel and OxfordAQA. The boards differ in paper structure and wording, so we teach to the exact board your child is entered for.

How a lesson works

A lesson is one live hour, one-to-one. The teacher works through the text with your child in real time. They underline the phrase that carries a writer’s tone, mark where a paragraph loses focus and show where a summary has slipped into copying.

Your child usually writes to time within the hour, so exam pressure becomes familiar. The teacher reads the writing against what the paper rewards and gives specific notes.

For example: “Your evidence is strong, but your analysis is thin. Here is how to close the gap.”

You do not need to know English teaching to see whether your child is improving.

Who teaches

Every teacher on our team has years of experience teaching English and marking student work. You meet the teacher who will continue with your child in the very first lesson.

Our teachers are described by their experience, because what matters for IGCSE English is knowing the papers and how students earn marks. Meet the team on our teachers page.

Cost and the trial class

Our rate starts from RM70/hr. The exact figure depends on the teacher and level.

We tell you on WhatsApp before anything is booked. There are no packages, and you pay by the hour.

The first lesson is a paid, one-hour trial at that rate. The teacher checks your child’s reading and writing, teaches something useful and sets out a plan.

Because the teacher is the one who would continue, none of the hour is wasted. We charge for the hour because real teaching is worth paying for, and it keeps expectations honest.

After that, you pay by the hour, with no packages.

Coursework, speaking and scope

We teach the skills behind coursework and speaking. Your child writes every submitted piece and gives every spoken answer themselves, because both must be their own work.

We teach IGCSE and International GCSE English. We can also point you to what comes after, such as A-Level English or IELTS.

How one-to-one compares

A full school class cannot give one student an hour of feedback on their own writing. This is where many capable students plateau. Group tuition costs less per hour, but it splits the teacher’s attention.

Self-study with past papers builds familiarity, but it rarely fixes thin analysis, a runaway narrative or a summary that lifts phrases. Nobody is reading the work and saying what to change.

One-to-one costs more per hour, and it is not for everyone. For a student who needs their own writing read and improved every week, it is the most direct way to move a grade.

Which qualification and strand?

The answer depends on the school’s entry and your child’s starting point.

  • First Language English suits students who read and write English comfortably and aim for top grades.
  • ESL suits students still building English. Its listening and speaking components reward clear, structured communication.
  • Literature in English builds close reading and essay writing. It is valuable alone and good preparation for A-Level.

Where a school lets you choose the board, we talk through the differences with you. If you are unsure, try our which-English quiz or read our comparison guides.

Timetabling and progress

Lessons are online, so we fit them around the school week: after school, evenings or weekends. We can move a lesson when exams or trips clash.

Many families keep one regular slot. Some add a second lesson before the exam series, or short holiday blocks.

We track progress through the work itself, not an invented score. Over time, summaries stay within the word limit and in your child’s own words. Analysis names the effect, not just the technique.

Narratives control their endings. We tell you what we see in plain language, and we tell you when something still needs work.

Free, sourced resources

You can use most of what we publish without paying. Our annotated model responses show how a strong answer is built. Our practice sets offer original tasks with plans you can reveal after trying.

You can also use our skills guides, writing-format guides, glossary and tools such as a paper-timing planner. We take every syllabus fact from the exam board’s own document, listed on our sources page.

Where we teach

We teach online across Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor and every other state. To see how online lessons fit your area, start from our find-a-tutor pages.

What happens next

  1. Message us on WhatsApp with your child’s year (Y9, Y10 or Y11), the board and qualification if you know them, and the target grade or main worry.
  2. We reply the same day, suggest a teacher and quote the rate.
  3. Your child has a paid, one-hour trial with the teacher who would continue.
  4. You decide whether to continue. You pay by the hour, with no packages.
