What the examiners reward in Component 4
Speaking
- SL5. listen and respond appropriately in conversation
This is one of the objectives. The 0500 overview lists the full set.
The speaking and listening objectives reward a student who can structure and sustain a talk. They should choose language and a register that suit the topic and audience. Just as importantly, they must listen closely and respond to what is actually said.
Good work in the individual task has a clear shape. It opens by framing the topic. The middle develops a genuine line of thought with examples.
The close makes a point rather than trailing off. In the discussion, strong candidates take a question seriously and build on it. They are willing to develop or qualify a view.
We coach the thinking and the delivery. We never write or supply a script, because the component tests the student's own spoken response.
For more detail, see 0500 speaking and listening in the syllabus.
The trial lesson can work on Cambridge International 0500 Component 4 directly, with timings, mark scheme and your child's own answers.
