First Language English suits the many Johor Bahru students who already use English confidently at home and at school, from Crescendo-HELP International to the private schools around Tebrau who need to turn that fluency into exam marks. It is a demanding strand: reading closely enough to explain how a writer creates an effect, then writing to a brief with control. Our team of experienced English teachers focuses a JB student squarely on those two skills, one-to-one and online, so a family whose days already cross the causeway spends the English hour on the analysis and composition that First Language actually rewards.
What we cover
For First Language English we teach Johor Bahru students to read for a writer's effects, how word choice, imagery and structure shape meaning, and to prove that reading in precise, well-evidenced answers rather than loose summary. Directed writing gets close attention: reading a source, then reshaping it for a new audience, form and purpose while keeping your own voice.
On composition we build both descriptive and narrative pieces, working on openings, control of tense and endings that land. Every task is written to time and checked against your board's criteria, so a JB student sees exactly where a mark was won or lost.
Lessons are online, one-to-one and timetabled around school. The first step is a paid one-hour trial.
Studying from home in Johor Bahru
Johor Bahru is in Johor. A student's exact address makes no difference online, with the same experienced teacher and the same one-to-one hour. For local schools and travel, see our Johor Bahru page, the Johor Bahru district or the Johor page.
The shape of a lesson
The routine is simple: one teacher, one student, one hour, timetabled around school. Lessons are from RM70/hr, with the exact figure agreed before booking, and the first step is a one-hour paid trial.
