First Language English is well suited to the confident Kuching reader who is ready to be stretched, a familiar profile in the city's international schools. The course rewards analytical reading and carefully made writing, not merely correct English. Our team of experienced English teachers teaches it as a discipline of its own: a Kuching student learns to read a passage for the writer's choices and their effect, and to bring the same deliberateness to their own composition.
We work on descriptive, narrative and directed writing as crafted things, so a student's pages read as decisions taken on purpose. Reading closely and writing well are treated as one skill, developed together across each lesson.
What we cover
First Language English has three demands, and our lessons address each. In reading, a Kuching student learns to analyse how a writer uses language and structure and to describe the effect with precision rather than in loose terms. In directed writing, we practise recasting given material into a new form with its own audience and purpose, keeping every fact intact while the voice changes.
In composition, we build descriptive and narrative writing, focusing on openings, paragraph control and endings that settle. Our team of experienced English teachers works on analysis and writing together, so one strengthens the other, and points each task at your board's syllabus rather than any specification we might recite.
Lessons are online, one-to-one and timetabled around school. The first step is a paid one-hour trial.
Kuching students, one teacher
Nobody in Kuching needs to travel for this. Lessons run on a shared screen, timetabled around the school day, with the same experienced teacher each time. For local schools and travel, see our Kuching page or the Sarawak page.
Inside a lesson
The routine is simple: one teacher, one student, one hour, timetabled around school. Lessons are from RM70/hr, with the exact figure agreed before booking, and the first step is a one-hour paid trial.
