Here is how the series is structured and how our teachers pace a year of one-to-one work toward it. We describe no past paper and never predict what a question will ask.
How the June series works
First Language English is assessed across two written papers in the June series. The Reading paper tests comprehension, analysis of a writer's effects and summary. The Directed Writing and Composition paper asks a candidate to reshape source material and then write one descriptive or narrative piece.
Schools that follow the coursework route submit a portfolio in place of the second paper. An optional Speaking Test can be entered as a separate endorsement. The June papers fall in the middle of the calendar year.
This is the close of the August-to-June school year most international schools here follow. Results are issued some weeks afterwards. Confirm your child's exact components and dates with the school and the board.
Who sits the June series
Most Year 11 students at Malaysian international schools sit First Language English in June. That is because it lands at the natural end of the August-to-June academic year their course is built around. This is the larger cohort.
It includes students who have studied the syllabus across two years and are taking the paper for the first time. It also includes Year 10 candidates entered early by their school. Because these students have a full year of runway, preparation can build reading and writing skills steadily rather than compress them.

A preparation timeline for the June series
Our teachers usually pace preparation for the June exams like this. We adapt it to when your child starts and where they are:
- A full year out: We establish a baseline. We read your child's current writing against the syllabus to set the reading and composition skills to develop over the year. We begin wide reading and regular short pieces to build the habit early.
- 6-8 months out: We build the reading skills the paper rewards. These are close analysis of language, structure and tone, and the discipline of an accurate summary. Alongside this we start directed-writing tasks that hold audience, purpose and register steady.
- 3-4 months out: We develop composition in both modes. We work on arresting descriptive detail and shaped narrative, with strong openings, controlled paragraphs and endings that land. Your child has a bank of settings and structures to draw on.
- 6-8 weeks out: We consolidate. We mark full responses against the exact wording of the syllabus and tighten vocabulary and accuracy. We also fix the recurring habits that quietly cost marks across both papers.
- Final weeks: We move to timed, full-length rehearsal under exam pacing for the Reading paper and the Directed Writing and Composition paper. The June sitting feels familiar rather than new.
We never predict what a paper will contain, and this page describes no past paper. Confirm the exact timetable and any assessment changes for your exam year with your school or the board. Past papers are on the board's own website.
